A bootleg collage from early-2000s Pakistan, Anari Number 2 is part of a genre of pulp erotica sold in photo studios, roadside stalls, and barber shops. The Urdu title suggests a humorous or naive protagonist, but the imagery featuring stolen glamour shots of Western celebrities like Britney Spears was never part of an actual film or story. These posters were designed purely as bait for buyers, retailing for as low as 95 rupees. The print merges softcore fantasy with local marketing flair, reflecting how global pop iconography was repurposed in underground circuits of Pakistani media culture.

Exhibited in “Spasial Program” at SculptureCenter, New York, June 18 –July 28, 2025.
