Ya Abbas Alamdar Wall Tapestry
This wall tapestry honors Hazrat Abbas ibn Ali, known as Alamdar or the standard-bearer of Karbala. It features a powerful depiction of Abbas kneeling with severed arms, holding the alam (battle flag), surrounded by palm trees and battlefield tents. His face is deliberately left blank, a common devotional practice to avoid literal representation of holy figures. To the right is the golden dome and minaret of his shrine in Karbala.
The Urdu and Arabic inscriptions invoke his bravery and sacrifice, especially his role in carrying water to the children of Imam Hussain’s camp. Often used during Muharram and Ashura commemorations, this tapestry is part of a mass-produced genre of sacred visual culture in Pakistan that turns martyrdom into imagery, memory, and presence.
