Karachi, After Midnight: Vols. 1 to 3, Complete Edition Set

Complete set. One Complete Edition of each volume, sold together. Each volume is also sold on its own, and in parts, listed below.

Karachi, After Midnight: Volumes 1, 2 and 3, the complete three-book set. This bundle includes one complete paperback edition of each volume, preserving Shams's online diary from 2003 to 2009: Volume 1 (2003), Volume 2 (2004), and Volume 3 (2005–2009).

Volume 1 compiles all of Shams's 2003 entries (Counting Traffic, Storm Season, and City Electric), moving through the city's everyday frictions. Volume 2 compiles the following year (Becoming Gay, Tehzeeb-ul-Ikhlaq Chowk, and Flowers of Separation) through chatrooms, offices, Ramadan hunger, political noise, illness, and dangerous moments of recognition. Across the first two volumes, Shams writes with humor, longing, panic, tenderness, and sudden flashes of beauty. Volume 3 compiles the long ending. Shams gets the man, survives the earthquake, then watches everyone marry while he springs his friends and not himself. Benazir is shot. The crushes spin faster and mean less. His family turns on the life he refuses to surrender. After six years and more than two thousand nights at the keyboard, there is a knock on the closet door. The diary stops mid-sentence.
