Provenance: Surplus copy retained outside field distribution. Acquired from the personal materials of an unnamed U.S. military servicemember. Never airdropped or field-distributed.
Translation:
Front:
“Mining waterways will not affect coalition ships.
Any vessel suspected of laying mines will be destroyed.”
Reverse:
“Inform coalition forces of mining operations.
Mined waterways will harm no one but the Iraqi people.”
Imagery:
Both sides depict vessels moving across a waterline with submerged naval mines illustrated below the surface. The cross-section view emphasizes hidden danger, visually linking underwater explosives to civilian harm rather than military impact.
Objective:
To deter the mining of waterways by reframing it as ineffective against coalition naval power while highlighting its consequences for Iraqi civilians. The leaflet also encourages reporting of mining activity, aiming to disrupt sabotage efforts and gather intelligence.
