Saad Khan of Khajistan Featured in Dazed MENA 100 as a Visionary Archivist

by Khajistan Cultural Desk

Saad Khan, the visionary founder of Khajistan, a groundbreaking archive dedicated to rescuing and digitizing overlooked cultural histories from the Greater Middle East, has been honored as one of Dazed MENA 100 in the first issue of DAZED MENA. This prestigious list celebrates pioneers shaping the cultural narratives across the Middle East and North Africa.

Featured in the spotlight piece, “Saad Khan: The Visionary Behind Khajistan’s Archive of the Forgotten”, Dazed delves into Khan’s mission to preserve forgotten cultural ephemera, periodicals, and subcultures. By blending archival diligence with a modern aesthetic, Khan redefines how history is curated, bridging the gap between digital innovation and cultural preservation.

“Being recognized by Dazed is a testament to the power and the enduring relevance of the cultural fragments we collect,” said Saad Khan. “This platform allows us to highlight the vibrant histories often erased or ignored, making the ‘cult’ common for a global audience.”

Founded in New York City in 2021, Khajistan has become a vital digital repository for materials ranging from rare Urdu and Persian periodicals to ephemeral propaganda leaflets, offering insights into the artistic, social, and political histories of the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. Khan’s recent projects include the digitization of rare pre-Islamic revolution Iranian lifestyle periodicals and the curation of a collection of American war ephemera published under Khajistan Press as American War Propaganda Leaflets (1990 - 2022)

Khan’s inclusion in Dazed MENA 100 marks a pivotal moment for Khajistan, underscoring its importance as a cultural beacon and its role in redefining how archives can shape contemporary cultural dialogue.
