Launched in the 1960s, Javanan Emrooz was one of Iran’s most popular youth and entertainment magazines, known for its coverage of film, music, and celebrity culture. Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the magazine continued briefly under heavy censorship before being shut down. This July, 1980 issue features exiled Iranian singer Hayedeh on the cover. Headlines include coverage of celebrity scandals, female dominance in entertainment venues, and a mysterious healer. The magazine reflects the last remnants of Iran’s pre-revolutionary pop culture before it was silenced
