Original double-sided U.S. and Coalition psychological operations leaflet produced during Operation Desert Storm. Printed in Arabic and English, the leaflet presents two choices for Iraqi soldiers: continue fighting and face Coalition attack, or surrender safely and return to family. The reverse provides surrender instructions under the heading “Cease Resistance, Be Safe.”

    Leaflet Number: C21
    Operation: Operation Desert Storm
    Conflict / War: Gulf War
    Year: 1991
Country / Theater: Iraq and Kuwait Theater
    Language(s): Arabic and English
    Format: Original printed leaflet, double-sided
Provenance: Airdropped leaflet acquired from the family of a U.S. military commander.

    Translation:
Side 1: “Cease Resistance, Be Safe.”
The bearer is instructed to remove the magazine from their weapon, sling the weapon over the left shoulder with the muzzle down, raise both arms above the head, and approach Multi-National Forces positions slowly while the lead soldier holds the document above his head. The final warning states: “If you do this, you will not die.”

Imagery: One side shows two illustrated scenarios. In the upper panel, an Iraqi soldier imagines combat against Coalition aircraft, tanks, and armored vehicles, suggesting certain death if resistance continues. In the lower panel, a surrendering Iraqi soldier raises his arms before Coalition forces, with flags visible behind the receiving soldier, while imagining his family and return home.

Objective: To persuade Iraqi soldiers to cease resistance and surrender by contrasting battlefield destruction with survival, humane treatment, and eventual return to family.

Condition: Fair condition. Complete and legible, with heavy field wear, creasing, staining, fiber exposure, edge loss, and a major horizontal tear across the center. The leaflet remains intact enough for display and reading, with both image and text sides substantially preserved.
