    Iraq | Arabic | Operation Iraqi Freedom, c. 2006

A portrait of Abu Ayyub al-Masri appears against a pair of staring eyes. The Arabic threatens that he will be the next militant leader to die and will join Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in hell. The other side promises pursuit without mercy. From the family of a U.S. military commander.

Exhibited in Office of War Information (O.W.I.), Pioneer Works, New York, 2026.

    Historical context

Abu Ayyub al-Masri succeeded Abu Musab al-Zarqawi as leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq after Zarqawi’s death in June 2006. This leaflet uses that succession to threaten the new leader personally, linking his portrait to the fate of his predecessor.

Sources: Iraq leaflet reproductions: Abu Ayyub al-Masri.

Condition: Very good condition. Original example with clean black-and-white printing, light handling wear, minor creasing, and faint surface marks. Text and imagery remain clearly legible.
