Nosrat Karimi stars as a scheming religious mediator In Mohallel, who exploits Iran’s nikah ḥalala law by demanding exorbitant fees for sham remarriages that allow divorced couples to reunite. Irene Zazians portrays the beleaguered wife caught in this cynical arrangement, with Reza Karam Rezaei and others in supporting roles. Banned in 1979 for its satirical critique of clerical hypocrisy, the film remains officially unreleased in its full form and on a VHS print of the film survives.
