Join us at Printed Matter for the launch of American War Propaganda Leaflets by Saad Khan, founder of Khajistan. Khan will be in conversation with Dr. Madiha Tahir, an interdisciplinary scholar of war and technology and director of the documentary Wounds of Waziristan. Together, they’ll unpack the process of documenting propaganda and Khajistan’s work in preserving overlooked histories.

Available here.

Saad Khan is a filmmaker, writer, and preservationist. His films include Chuppan Chupai (2013), Qandeel (2017), and Showgirls of Pakistan (2020). Through his archiving project, Khajistan, Khan continues to preserve the knowledge of marginalized subcultures in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and surrounding regions of the Middle East. Additionally, he serves as the executive producer at SAVTA, a post-production studio based in Brooklyn, New York.

Madiha Tahir is a Postdoctoral Associate and Assistant Professor of American Studies at Yale University. She is an interdisciplinary scholar of technology and war with interest and expertise in digital war, surveillance, militarism, and empire and technology studies from below. Her work intersects the anthropology of war with insights from the fields of postcolonial, South Asian, and Black Studies literatures to reframe our understanding of technology, war, and US imperialism. Tahir’s current book project explores U.S. drone warfare and transnational militarism in the Pakistan-Afghanistan borderlands.

The event will feature exclusive advance copies of Khajistan Press’s forthcoming publication, Kharabat Vol. 1.
