A hand-painted cover from Chughli (چغلی), a Lahore-based Urdu film and gossip magazine from the 1950s. Known for its stylized portraits and bold headlines, Chughli circulated risqué illustrations and rumors from Lollywood’s golden age. This issue’s sultry, noir-inspired artwork captures the glamorous and scandalous spirit of post-Partition Urdu print culture, where cinema, femininity, and moral panic collided in public imagination.

Exhibited in “Spasial Program” at SculptureCenter, New York, June 18 –July 28, 2025.
